The end of the season on 3rd September for the North Wales Coast League brought good news and bad news. Good news for our ‘B’ Team, consolidating their 4th place in the ‘D’ Division. Well done everyone. Bad news for our ‘A’ Team that, after a valiant struggle with 5 other clubs during the season, it was eventually relegated despite winning a high number of points not usually associated with a team in a relegation zone. The photo above includes a selfie of David L in his daytime finery. Ooops, sorry, actually it’s a photo taken by David L on his travels through Gwydyr Forest earlier this week. It is the information board at the site of a 400-year old bowling green in the middle of Gwydyr Forest above Llanrwst! Who knew?
If you get the chance, do go and visit the site. And, as David L advises, when you are heading to Llanwrst for a bowls league match, do not make the mistake of heading to this bowling green. If you do, however, you will know immediately that it is not the right location because it will not be submerged under 6-feet of flood water.
Just when you were all ready to put your feet up at home, here are some advance dates for your diary from the Committee. More details to be provided in due course:

4.4a Objection to a mark set by the leader can only be made by the leader’s opponent after the first bowl has come to rest. If the opponent objects before the leader’s first bowl has come to rest, the leader may have the jack, and bowl if played, returned to have another attempt at setting a mark. Only the opponent can object to the mark. An opponent objecting to a mark must make a clear indication that an objection has been made.
4.4b If, after an objection to a mark has been made, it is proved by measurement to be a mark, the jack and bowl shall remain.
4.5 If the leader fails to set a mark, the leader’s opponent is then entitled to an attempt at setting a mark. In pairs this will be the player waiting to follow the leader.
4.6 If the leader fails to set a mark, objection to an attempt by the opponent must be made by the leader before delivering the first bowl.
4.7 If the opponent then fails to set a mark, the leader shall have another attempt and so on, alternately, until a mark has been set by one of them. The original leader to play the first bowl.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support our two Mixed Pairs teams in the Welsh Crown Green Bowling Association (WCGBA) Finals Day yesterday. Ian & Shan, David L & Diane, competed hard in every round, as far as the Quarter Finals, and were only defeated by the two pairs that eventually reached the Final. The Finalists could perhaps be described as serial competition entrants so were very experienced, having also played at superleague, county and country level. Maybe next time folks.
