Chesil Beach is a shingle bank 18-miles long, running from the Isle of Portland near Weymouth to West Bay near Bridport. It forms part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The stretch between the Isle of Portland and Abbotsbury (photo on Left) is backed by the Fleet, a shallow tidal lagoon. From September 1942 to March 1943, experiments with the Barnes Wallis bouncing bombs were made off Chesil Beach.
