Rain versus Bowlers
Clwydian League qualifying events were held around North Wales yesterday but rain turned all the events into a bigger challenge than expected.
Halfway through the day at Mochdre, time was called on the event as puddles had formed all over the green. Remaining games to be played today.
At Old Colwyn, the players continued on through the torrential downpours testing everyone’s resolve and their waterproof clothing. Click Here for a couple more photos. Our ‘C’ Team reps, John P and Keith, played at Meliden and were equally soaked through. Well done everyone.
Neat Enough
The end of season lunch was very well attended. Click Here for a few photos from the event. Always useful if the memory has lapsed for any reason.
Closing Fours

It was a nail-biting afternoon as doubles teams competed throughout the afternoon. The four finalists – Maureen, Sean, Brian and Tom C – played a shorter, time-limited game before the wet weather arrived from the mountains. Tom C and Brian were the eventual Champions and received the trophy that was inscribed with Brian’s name as a member of the last doubles pairing to win it. “It’s Coming Home”, was the cry from the stands.
A Day Off!
Only food and drink could persuade members to take a day off from bowling. It was a good lunch yesterday and Dave H gave a well-deserved vote of thanks to Sylvia, on behalf of everyone present, as she had organised the lunch at the golf club.
There will be a few photos to follow in a day or two so keep checking back for a new post on this page with a link.
P.S. “Closing Fours Competition” is this afternoon so be there before 1:30pm to enter.
3-Leagues = 9-Miles
The 2022 Season of the Clwydian League, the third of the leagues in which our Club participates, ended yesterday. Our ‘A’ Team finished a creditable 6th, in the top half of the ‘A’ Division; our ‘B’ Team finished a magnificent 3rd in the ‘C’ Division, just missing out on a promotion place by 8-points and a 0.4 average; and our ‘C’ Team ended its season last week by 8-points and 42-points above the next 2-teams below them.
Whether you played in a team or bowled socially or were just learning the game or a spectator, we can all celebrate the season end in style at lunch today. Our well-oiled machine of volunteers, i.e. the Committee, the Greenkeeping and Maintenance Team and the Team Captains & Vice Captains, ensured that everything ran smoothly all year long and we are all very grateful to every one of them.

News Just in From the Committee
The Committee met last Friday, and the latest Newsletter has now appeared hot off the press (Click Here to read a copy).
Remember the Closing Fours Comp is now on Thursday afternoon at 1:30pm.
Our Very Own Sir Veigh
Well, so many interesting thoughts from Club Members in the recent survey. What a great way of keeping our Committee Members tied up in knots for some time to come. Well played everyone.
“It’s Your Neighbourhood” 2022
Vardre Deganwy Bowling Club has achieved the Classification of “Outstanding” for the 2022 display. Click Here for a bit more. The Assessor wrote:
“Many thanks to Dave and Tommy for a warm welcome and a comprehensive tour. On entering the club curtilage, one gets the feeling of a well maintained and cared for facility. The green is immaculate, the colourful baskets are good and plentiful, and the building and infrastructure well maintained. The efforts at sustainability are very reassuring showing the club embraces environmental responsibility. There seems to be excellent community participation. I particularly liked the association with U3A and your plans to restart school participation.”
