The Alan & Geraint Jones Memorial Competition Finals

On Sunday 10th August the final rounds of this competition were held at Vardre Deganwy. It started with the Round of 16 followed by the Quarter and Semi-Finals, and then the Final was held between Steve Lawley and Mike Pritchard. Mike Pritchard was the overall winner and was presented with the Alan & Geraint Jones Memorial Cup. Well played to everyone and thanks to the family for this annual competition. Sylvia: The River Arno in Italy, because there Arno boats there!

Today on the Green

For Members not involved in the Clwydian League, just to let you know that today the green will be in use by our Clwydian ‘B’ & ‘C’ Teams from approximately 9:00am to 6:00pm (if the green remains very dry). This year the league has included the occasional league match on a Friday as well as on a Tuesday due to the number of teams in each division. Do go along and give your support if you have some free time on your hands and the green will be available from 6:00pm onwards (possibly a bit earlier).

Doubles Friendly

The doubles friendly today at Vardre Deganwy will start at 2:00pm so please be there just before that time so that pairs can be sorted for the match.

Could You Be Penitent?

In the graveyard of St. Michael’s Church in Abergele (just behind the bowling green) is a solitary stone known as The Penitential Stone. Sinners circa 17th Century had to do penance by standing beside the stone, dressed in white, beseeching the congregation for mercy as they entered and left the church. If you know a Sinner today who is prepared to stand on the stone to beg for mercy then you too can take a photo like the one that follows:-

Doubles Friendly

The doubles friendly against Old Colwyn on Thursday has been cancelled but the good news is that an in-house game will be held instead at Vardre Deganwy. The start time for this doubles friendly will be 2:00pm.

The following Thursday, 14th August, the friendly will be held at Home versus the Oval Bowling Club. On 21st August the friendly will again be held at Home versus Rhos-on-Sea (Allanson Road). Finally, on 28th August, the friendly will again be held at Home, this time versus Eirias Park. Anyone wanting to play in the friendlies should arrive before 1:30pm.

Doubles Friendly

The next doubles friendly will be held on Thursday afternoon, 7th August, to be held Away at Old Colwyn Bowling Club. Anyone wanting to play should arrive before 1:30pm.

The following Thursday, 14th August, the friendly will be held at Home versus the Oval Bowling Club. On 21st August the friendly will again be held at Home versus Rhos-on-Sea (Allanson Road). Finally, on 28th August, the friendly will again be held at Home, this time versus Eirias Park.

Geraint Jones Memorial Pairs Qualifying Today

Our Club is one of the hosts for the qualifying rounds of the Geraint Jones Memorial Pairs competition today between 9:00am and Midday-ish. The Final day of the competition will be held on 16th August at Conwy Bowling Club.
