Brown?
You might all remember our racey green, fast as lightning during the hot, dry spring and summer months. Now our volunteers and Bobby have started work on the green to improve it. It will look worse during the reinvigorating work on the green, so don’t worry. Our green is in very experienced hands (all of them with green fingers). Click Here to read Ian Wilson’s update on the work on the green.
HUGE THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS ON MONDAY, especially from Bobby.

Clwydian President’s Day
Today is the Clwydian President’s Day with three of our bowlers playing in the merits semi-finals, to be held from 10:30am onwards at Old Colwyn. Each of the four Divisions will have its own Semi-Finals and Final. Our three representatives – Mark Ball, Vince Toms and John Probyn – will play in the ‘A’ Division (Mark & Vince) and the ‘C’ Division (John P) matches.
In addition, prize-giving by the league President at the end of the event, will involve Team Captain Shan Eccles who will be presented with the Clwydian Cup Competition ‘A’ Division Trophy, receiving it on behalf of the Vardre Deganwy ‘A’ Team that won this season-long competition last month. If team members are available tomorrow then please be there so that we can take a photograph of the team with the trophy. Perhaps there will also be a prize to receive for the ‘A’ Team ending the season in the Runners-Up place in the ‘A’ Division?
Also, Captain Carol Barrington of our ‘B’ Team will be picking up the ‘B’ Division Cup Competition prize for the Runners-Up Team in the competition.
Thank You
Doreen and Paul would like to send their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has offered such considerate support and sent such kind words regarding the recent passing of John Grey. As you will be aware, John had been unwell for the last two or three years, and Doreen and Paul, along with other family members, had been travelling a few times a week to visit John in his care home in Frodsham, which was also near to his daughter.
For those of you who would like to attend John’s funeral, it will be held at the Crematorium in Mochdre on 9th October at 12:30. Then the wake will be held afterwards at the Rhos on Sea Cricket Club.
Green Closed but Help Needed
As planned, the green closed on Friday until next season. As Ian notified us earlier this month, in week commencing 29th September the green will need to have some deep slitting and scarifying of the surface. Club Members are needed please to help with this work.
Care for the green from now until the start of next season is really important, especially after the long hot, dry summer that we have just had. If any member of the club can help us, please contact David Leech, John Barrington or Ian Wilson. Please note that some tasks involve heavy lifting. Thank you.
Clwydian League Merits

Yesterday was a busy day for our club with 2-players from all 4-teams in the Clwydian League playing in the Merits Qualifiers for President’s Day on Tuesday 30th September.
Mark and Vince from our ‘A’ Team, both won all their games to reach the Semi-Finals on Tuesday, and they will be playing the two players from Highbury who also defeated all their opponents.
Our ‘B’ Team players were Steve and Frank. Steve won his first game then he and Frank were drawn against each other. It was a very close game with Steve emerging as the winner. Steve then faced an opponent from Ruthin and eventually lost out.
Gay and John P were the ‘C’ Team representatives. Gay lost in her first game but John P won both his games to reach the Semi-Finals on Tuesday.
Deb and Ian were the ‘D’ Team players with both of them winning two-rounds but unfortunately losing out in their 3rd games.
Well done to all players and thanks to all club members who went along to support the players at each of the venues.
