Spring Re-Pairs

Ian reports on yesterday’s Spring Pairs Competition:

New members Alan & Maureen Thomas were deserved winners of yesterday’s Spring Pairs competition, played in damp (but at least dry) weather, after morning rain. Eight pairings of their own choice were present for a prompt start. Each couple had a combined handicap, and games were all on a timed basis of 30 minutes. Winners of the first matches continued in the Cup competition until eliminated, and then they played in the Plate competition. Pairs who lost their opening 2 games qualified for the Spoon event. (Click Here to read Ian’s full report about the day of competitions).

Despite what their prizes say, we’re not keeping this result quiet. It’s Alan and Maureen – Winners of the Spring Pairs Competition 2023.

Hot Off the Press

Message from Ian Wilson:

The draw for the Spring Pairs on Sunday 16th April 2023;

  • Chris & Rosina Wompra   (9)     v    Dave & Hazel Leech    (4)
  • Bunty Masters/John Farman   (8)    v   Karen & Sean Butler     (7)
  • Carole Wilson/Sylvia Owens   (7)    v   Diane Lea/John Cartwright   (2)
  • Alan & Maureen Thomas    (10)     v    Gaye Hicdonmez/John Probyn   (6)

Numbers in brackets indicate combined handicap for the afternoon.

No Practice;  1-30pm prompt start;  £1 per person entry;  Tea/Coffee & biscuits

Having accepted a last-minute entry before the 5pm deadline by a “Diane Lea & John C” pairing, the draw was made earlier this evening in the presence of two BCGBA officials. Because of the lower than expected number of entries, a guaranteed finish before 3-45pm is now anticipated, which includes 2 short intervals between rounds for rest and refreshment purposes. All pairings will play 3 timed games – winners progressing to the final of the CUP competition, losing pairs then competing in the PLATE, and SPOON competitions accordingly.  Let’s hope for some warm weather, friendly rivalry and a good social afternoon’s bowling.

First Aid in May

Marina tells us that Vardre Deganwy Bowling Club has arranged a free First Aid course, covering CPR and use of a Defibrillator, to be held at the Vardre Deganwy Clubhouse in May (date to be confirmed). The course is being presented by St. Johns Ambulance and is expected to last between 1.5 to 2-hours. Our own defib will then be brought into action.

If Members want to participate in the First Aid course, but will be unable to attend our course in May, Dave H tells us that Betws Yn Rhos Bowling Club has extended an invitation to Vardre Deganwy Bowling Club Members to participate in their equivalent one to be held in their Sports Pavilion on Friday 28th April at 1.45pm.

Firstly, congratulations to our new Clwyd Team that maintained its winning streak last night in yet more wintry conditions. Even being thumped on the heads by occasional hailstorms did not deter the players from either side. Well done all.

Spring or Winter?

In very wet and wintry conditions yesterday, our ‘B’ and ‘C’ Teams achieved exceptional wins. Well done everyone. Although it is still early in the season, our ‘B’ Team is currently top of their division with a few points in hand. Keep it going everyone.

There’s Money in Muck

These are the 3 new bins in the clubhouse so that we can organise our rubbish and do our little bit towards taking care of our planet (Earth). The Committee would be very grateful if you could take the contents home with you. Although there is usually money in muck, you might not experience it with us! Thank you from the Club and the planet.
