Semi-Finalist
Well, it was 7:35pm on Sunday night, and starting to get dark, but it was light enough for Ian to be presented with his cheque for finishing as a Semi-Finalist.
The player who finally stopped Ian’s amazing run in the very first WCGBA Beginner’s Competition went on to win the competition. At least neither torchlight, nor floodlighting, was needed in Ian’s last game.
Four of the Best
The Welsh Crown Green Bowling Association (WCGBA) introduced a new competition this year that was played on 31st August at The Oval, Llandudno. This Beginner’s Competition was for players who had only registered with the BCGBA either this year or last year. Four players from Vardre Deganwy entered and had a very successful day: Deb Rasmussen, Phil Rasmussen, Colin Burgess and Ian Eardley.
Deb and Phil both had to play in the Preliminary Round and they both won their games. In the 2nd Round, Deb was unlucky to lose to 20 but Phil, Colin and Ian all won through to the 3rd Round. Phil lost in the 3rd to a good score of 15 whilst Ian won to 10, and Colin won to 20. In the Quarter-Final, Colin lost with a good score of 16 whilst Ian won to 10.
So Ian got through to the Semi-Final but lost to the eventual Winner of the Competition. A very exciting day. Congratulations to everyone. A very impressive show. There will be a few more photos later in the week but here are our 4-heroes:

Gardening Group
NOTICE: There will be no further meetings of the Gardening Group until the end of the season. Please watch out for further information as we near that time. Thank you. John Barrington
Saving Lives
On Thursday there was defibrillator training for members of the club provided by Tomos Hughes, the trainer for the Conwy Valley area (pictured on Right with the Club President Shan Eccles).
This was followed by presentation of a cheque in the sum of £600.00, raised by our Club Members in support of the Wales Air Ambulance. The Club was very impressed by the response and the medical aid given by the Air Ambulance staff when there was a medical emergency on our green earlier this season. The player affected, from another club, after a few weeks in hospital, is back playing bowls every week.

Upcoming Competition
The Welsh Crown Green Bowling Association’s (WCGBA) Beginner’s Competition, sponsored by NFU Llandudno, will be played on Sunday 31 August at Llandudno Oval. All day. Four of our members will be playing: Ian Eardley; Debs & Phil Rasmussen; and, Colin Burgess. Good luck all and do pop along to give them your support if you get the chance.
Bird Talk

Not found in built-up areas, but usually out in the open, the peacock is easily recognisable by its tail-feathers, whether those feathers are folded away or on display (see the two photographs above). Have you ever heard their vocalisations during the day? Different peacock vocalisations mean different things. The birds might let out an innocent squawk when entering their habitat to announce their presence or sound a loud alarm to warn others of predators. Peacocks are especially vocal during mating season, and their mating call sounds like a high-pitched hooting.
Want to see one? Well, you haven’t got far to go. For example, just visit Gwydir Castle near Llanwrst.
Annual General Meeting 2025
Message from the Club Secretary Elaine Beech to all Members:-
The 2025 AGM for Vardre Deganwy Bowling Club will be held on Friday 28th November at 2pm in the Main Hall at the Craig y Don Community Centre in Queens Road LL30 1TE.
As the leagues’ seasons are coming to an end, the nomination sheets for the Elections of Officers and other members of the Club Committee are now on the notice board at the Club.
This is your opportunity to have a say in who runs your Club so please place your nominations as soon as you can, and encourage your fellow team members and other members to do so.
You’ll see that there are optimistically 2 sets of boxes for each position so you never know, the meeting may include some ‘elections by ballot’.
