In the graveyard of St. Michael’s Church in Abergele (just behind the bowling green) is a solitary stone known as The Penitential Stone. Sinners circa 17th Century had to do penance by standing beside the stone, dressed in white, beseeching the congregation for mercy as they entered and left the church. If you know a Sinner today who is prepared to stand on the stone to beg for mercy then you too can take a photo like the one that follows:-
Doubles Friendly
The doubles friendly against Old Colwyn on Thursday has been cancelled but the good news is that an in-house game will be held instead at Vardre Deganwy. The start time for this doubles friendly will be 2:00pm.
The following Thursday, 14th August, the friendly will be held at Home versus the Oval Bowling Club. On 21st August the friendly will again be held at Home versus Rhos-on-Sea (Allanson Road). Finally, on 28th August, the friendly will again be held at Home, this time versus Eirias Park. Anyone wanting to play in the friendlies should arrive before 1:30pm.

Geraint Jones Memorial Pairs Qualifying Today
Our Club is one of the hosts for the qualifying rounds of the Geraint Jones Memorial Pairs competition today between 9:00am and Midday-ish. The Final day of the competition will be held on 16th August at Conwy Bowling Club.
Colwyn Bowls Festival Final Day
Day Six of the Colwyn Bowls Festival commences today at 9:30am onwards until approx. 8:30pm this evening. This is the Finals day held at Rhos Park:

Colwyn Bowls Festival Day Five
Day Five of the Colwyn Bowls Festival commences today at 9:30am onwards with the latter stages (up to and excluding the quarter finals) of the George Davies Qualifiers at Rhos Park Bowling Club. Also today there will be the Consolation Cup Qualifiers (up to, and excluding, the semi-final stage) to be held at 9:30am onwards at Min y Don; Mochdre Park; Vardre Deganwy; and, Craig y Don bowling clubs.
The evening session, with the start time of 5:30pm, will be the Craig Roberts Cup competition to be held at Rhos Park. This competition will be completed during the evening.
As with all competitions this week there is a half-an-hour roll-up period just prior to the start time with competitors using their own jacks.

Our Club will be hosting qualifying rounds for the above pairs competition on Saturday 2nd August between 9:00am and Midday-ish. The Final of the competition will be held on 16th August at Conwy Bowling Club.
Colwyn Bowls Festival Day Four
Day Four of the Colwyn Bowls Festival commences today with the Capstan Cup Qualifiers commencing at 9:30am at: Rhos Park; Rhos-on-Sea (Allanson Road); Mochdre Park; and, Eirias Park bowling clubs. These qualifiers are due to end around 5:00pm.
The Over-60’s Qualifiers will commence at 9:30am to 5:00pm approx. and will be held at: Min y Don; Vardre Deganwy; Old Colwyn; and, Craig y Don bowling clubs.
The evening session, with the start time of 5:30pm, includes the latter qualifying stages for the finals of the: Mixed Pairs; Men’s Pairs; Ladies Pairs Semi-Final. The Junior Cup Qualifying will also take place starting at 5:30pm at Craig y Don bowling club.

The George Davies Competition Qualifiers continue today on 4-greens with an early start of 9:30am at Rhos-on-Sea (Allanson Road) bowling club. There will then be 1:30pm starts at Mochdre; Old Colwyn; and, Eirias Park bowling clubs.
In the evening, with a start time of 5:30pm, the Ladies Pairs Qualifying will continue at Mochdre Park and Craig y Don bowling clubs. The Men’s Pairs Qualifying will continue at the same start time at Rhos Park; Rhos on Sea (Allanson Road); Min y Don; and, Old Colwyn bowling clubs.
