Ann looks very determined as she decides where to place that jack! She is probably practising for our Fun Day tomorrow. If you will be entering then be at the green by 1:30pm. See you there.

On a perfect afternoon, bowlers from Rhos-on-Sea joined Vardre Deganwy for a Mixed Doubles friendly competition. The green was running very fast so the first skill to master was keeping the jack on the green. Once this was achieved, the games went pretty smoothly whilst each team held its breath each time a jack or bowl reached the top of the crown followed by the rather interesting descent down the other side. (Photos to follow over the next few days).

Colin celebrates the end of an end where he and his opponent kept the jack on the green despite the fast running conditions.
So what is a Crown Green? It is not weathered copper headwear but it is an area of grass with a convex centre. The nature of the ground means that there is probably not just one centre on a crown green but an uneven area with many different rises, dips and slopes. The photo below demonstrates the highest part of the Vardre Deganwy Crown Green, ably modelled by Wendy.
