Ladies Rose Bowl Winner

This annual event took place yesterday with the First Round followed by the Quarter then Semi-Finals, with the Final also held on the same day. Our very own Carol and Shan battled it out and, with the score at 20-Across, they shook hands and played the final (and somewhat dramatic) end. Congratulations to Carol B, the ultimate Winner. Mary Hughes, President of the Club, presented Carol with the Rose Bowl Trophy. With a little cameo appearance from the club stool acting as the plinth for the trophy. Click Here for photos.

B Team Final Finale

Vardre Deganwy’ ‘B’ Team members all played their hearts out last night but were up against the Division leaders Min y Don. Clarice was Captain whilst Marina recuperated at home. Get well soon Marina but be reassured that your team members performed valiantly. Click Here for photos. Congratulations to all involved and, of course, to the ultimate winners Min y Don.

P.S. “Lots of thanks from the whole team to the many fellow Vardre members who came along to support us. We may not have won the match but, once again we probably broke the attendance record for the most supporters at one of these finals.”

Cup Final Day Today

Good luck to the Vardre Deganwy ‘B’ Team, in the Colwyn and Llandudno Division ‘C’ Competition Final tonight, to be played against Min Y Don at Rhos Park. We’ll be there to provide support. Have a great game and remember, “When you love the game, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose”.

Remember too, you just need to be closer to the jack than your opponent. Team photograph to be taken tonight so be prepared.

Baxter Cup 2022

The final of this Cup Competition, hosted by the Oval bowling club, Llandudno, was held on the Rhos Park bowling club’s green on Sunday due to surface issues at the Oval.

The winner was John Short, from Bangor City/Llanfairfechan bowling clubs, who defeated a strong opponent from Wrexham. John also won it in 2021.

John Short (centre) was presented with the Baxter Cup by Carol Marubbi, the Mayor of Llandudno

Phew Hot

Just like one of the Meerkats from the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay (above), this is probably how we are all spending this marvellously hot August as the greens also take a roasting from the sun.

Club Members

Club Secretary Dave H has circulated a survey to all members asking for you to consider and to make comments on the points covered. This will help the Committee to plan club activities for next season. There are a lot of questions and no doubt will take some time to collate all the responses so please get back to Ian W (who is collating the responses) as soon as you can. Many thanks all.

A Measured Arrangement

Hats off to Tommy and any other green-fingered contributors. Have all the members noticed how the splendid flower arrangements around the green also incorporate the long tapes for the bowls matches, and in such a perfectly subtle way? Great style indeed.

Late News: Rose Bowl Comp

Please note this competition has been postponed from today to next Friday 19th August 2022. See you there.

Rag, Tag and Bobtail

Some of us will remember this children’s TV programme. But who (or what) was Rag? Well, Rag was a Hedgehog. Hedgehogs are very important for your garden as they are nature’s pest controllers. They feast on many of the garden creatures we fight so hard to keep out of our gardens. They include worms, snails, slugs and insects. Here’s a photo of my night-time visitor who, coincidentally, also goes by the name of Rag. Take care as they may be sheltering in leaves and twigs in your garden.

Rag the Hedgehog. Tag was a Mouse and Bobtail a Rabbit.
