Today is Trooping the Colour, the event to celebrate the official birthday of King Charles III. His actual birthday is in November but the official birthday is usually held in the summer months, although this year the weather tells us that we might still be stuck in November. Watch it from 10:30am on BBC1.
Reminders
Reminder 1: Volunteers are needed for the evening of 19th June 2024 to help with refreshments or measuring. The list is up in the Clubhouse so please add your name.
Reminder 2: The Colwyn Bowls Festival 2024 runs from Sunday 28th July until Friday 2nd August. They have had a huge number of entries for all competitions so there is a meeting next week, with all the local clubs that will be hosting one or more of the preliminary rounds of the competitions, to agree and finalise all the details so be prepared for more requests to help host some of those events. All North Wales Leagues have no matches that week in support of the event.
Reminder 3: We will need a new Treasurer in November so please consider your nomination for this role.
Friendly Day Today
Today’s Friendly is at Home versus Penrhyn New Hall. Arrive by 1:30pm to be paired up with a partner, and then the match commences at 2:00pm. Come along and enjoy yourselves. It’s a great way for less experienced players to play a game with someone who has more experience. It is also played in a relaxed and friendly competitive way.
1 + 1 = 2
Can you do the above sum? Can you also do subtractions? Then you are just the person that this Club will need after November, so please put your thinking cap on now and prepare to volunteer. Why? Well here’s a message from David L, Treasurer:
“After some 10-years as Treasurer, including a few years as Assistant Treasurer, I have decided not to continue after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November.”
“If anyone is interested in taking on this very important role then please contact me to discuss it in more detail. In addition, we will also need someone to Audit/Check the Annual Accounts in October this year. I look forward to hearing from you.” David L, Treasurer
Tip Top
Under Carol B’s captaincy, our Ladies Clwydian League Team sits atop the ‘A’ Division Table in its first year in the Division. The Team won the Division ‘B’ title last year at its first attempt, so keep going ladies and try to emulate that amazing and unexpected win by Emma Raducanu at the US Open in 2021 (tennis).
2024 Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain
After winning the 1st Stage of the Tour that ended in Llandudno on Thursday, Lotte Kopecky also won the 2nd Stage that was a circular route from Wrexham through the Horseshoe Pass and back into Wrexham. On the 2nd Stage, she broke away from the Peloton together with the British rider Anna Henderson, and they had an exciting race to the finishing line. Stage 3 from Warrington was won by Kopecky’s teammate but Kopecky remained top of the General Classification. On the 4th, and final, Stage yesterday, Kopecky came in 4th but won the overall event, plus she won the Sprinter’s Jersey. Lizzie Deignan, of the Great Britain Cycling Team, won the Queen of the Mountains plus the Combativity Award. Anna Henderson took 2nd place overall and was crowned the Best British Rider.
