The Crown

So what is a Crown Green? It is not weathered copper headwear but it is an area of grass with a convex centre. The nature of the ground means that there is probably not just one centre on a crown green but an uneven area with many different rises, dips and slopes. The photo below demonstrates the highest part of the Vardre Deganwy Crown Green, ably modelled by Wendy.

Friendly Sunday and Thursdays

Message from Dave H, the Club Secretary. Please put these dates in your diary.

  • I’m pleased to say that we will be holding a Fun Day next Sunday, 31st July, when, not only will we playing bowls, we will have our inaugural Baking Competition. The baking competitors should arrive no later than 12:45pm so that judging can take place at 1:00pm. Bowlers should arrive by 1:30pm and if anyone wants to bring along some snacks they will be very much appreciated and eaten during the break when the results of the baking competition will be given. If you arrive early, please do not enter clubhouse until the judging has finished. Entry to our prestigious bowling event will be £2. We also hope to run our ‘spider’ bowls game, just prior to the start of the game at 2pm, and that will be a £1 entry with a cash prize to the winner. The more entries the bigger the prize.
  • Don’t forget that this coming Thursday, 28th, we have a ‘Friendly’ against Rhos-on-Sea at the Vardre and you should arrive by 1:30pm.
  • The following Thursday, 4th August, is the annual Girls versus Boys match. Arrive by 1:30pm. As I remember, the guys won the last time we played so, come on girls, it’s time for revenge!

I look forward to seeing you.

Alan’s ?0th Birthday Party

Very Happy Birthday to Alan (in first photo below as he seems to have escaped the camera at the party!) whose daughter organised a surprise party earlier this week. Here are a few photos of some members of the Vardre Deganwy team at the party and the cake:

Gay gets in a quick nap

On a sweltering Monday morning, the weekly coaching session this week got off to a slow start with some trainees, and a coach, keeping cool in the Clubhouse. John P might tell you they were talking tactics but ……..

Next 3 Thursdays and the GBBO (Great Bowling Bake Off)

Message from the Club Secretary Dave H: Just to let you all know that there is no friendly game this week but those who turn up should get together and form teams and play amongst yourselves. The following Thursday, 28th, we are playing Rhos on Sea at the Vardre. Please turn up before 1.30pm please.

On Thursday, 4th August it is Girls against Guys. If you want to play put your name on the list on the noticeboard.

Finally, we only have 2 names for the baking competition. If it stays that way I’m afraid it will be postponed until more of you have practiced the art! Let me know if you are in.
