HM Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022

Thursday 8th September 2022. A very sad day. Deepest Condolences and very grateful thanks for Queen Elizabeth II’s reign over us. A unique and highly respected figurehead in the UK and around the world.

Thank you ma’am.

We will never forget.

Long live the King. God save the King.

“We Are the Champions”

Gary

The final night of the Colwyn and Llandudno League was exciting, with individual places in the aggregates changing minute by minute as the final matches across the four divisions took place. It was a great time to celebrate when our Vardre Deganwy ‘A’ Team won the Division ‘B’ title, soundly beating their last opponents, Mochdre ‘A’, by 10:2 points. The team also ended the season with a 21-point lead over the second placed team – St. Asaph. Tommy R, the Captain, then gave every member of the team a trophy in recognition of their excellent display throughout the season. Thanks Tommy – congratulations to you too.

Ann
Doreen

And to the two most supportive people during the whole season, the team would like to thank both Ann and Doreen for marking, cheering and simply being there for everyone in the team. We couldn’t have done it without you – our mascots!

Well done too to the Vardre Deganwy ‘B’ Team that consolidated its position in Division ‘C’. Well played to everyone and special thanks and congratulations to their Captain Marina.

Truffle Hunting

Keith and Kath hoped they had dug up valuable truffles on the green but, once they had cleaned them off, they were disappointed to discover they were just more run-of-the-mill crown green bowls.

Friendly and Even Friendlier Help Needed

Thursday Friendly: Home Friendly on Thursday 8th September at Vardre Deganwy bowling green versus Abergele. If you want to participate then please arrive before 1:30pm. Thank you.

We are hosting both the North Wales Coast League Merit Qualifiers on Saturday 10th September and the Colwyn and Llandudno League Merit Qualifiers on Sunday 11th September. We need help with serving tea, coffee and biscuits, and a couple of people to “do tapes”. Any help would be great so please add your name to the list on the noticeboard in the clubhouse. Thank you. Dave H, Club Secretary

FOR HIRE: 3 Amateur Actors from Vardre Deganwy available for hire for crowd scenes

Saturdays’ Are Over

The end of the season on 3rd September for the North Wales Coast League brought good news and bad news. Good news for our ‘B’ Team, consolidating their 4th place in the ‘D’ Division. Well done everyone. Bad news for our ‘A’ Team that, after a valiant struggle with 5 other clubs during the season, it was eventually relegated despite winning a high number of points not usually associated with a team in a relegation zone. If You Go Down to the Woods Today, You’re Sure of a Big Surprise

The photo above includes a selfie of David L in his daytime finery. Ooops, sorry, actually it’s a photo taken by David L on his travels through Gwydyr Forest earlier this week. It is the information board at the site of a 400-year old bowling green in the middle of Gwydyr Forest above Llanrwst! Who knew?

If you get the chance, do go and visit the site. And, as David L advises, when you are heading to Llanwrst for a bowls league match, do not make the mistake of heading to this bowling green. If you do, however, you will know immediately that it is not the right location because it will not be submerged under 6-feet of flood water.
