Colwyn Bowls Festival 2025

Colwyn Bowls Festival events kick off tomorrow (Sunday 27th July) with Ladies Rose Bowl Qualifiers at: Vardre Deganwy (start time 9:30am) and Eirias Park Bowling Clubs. The Bill Hughes Qualifiers will be held at: Rhos-on-Sea (Allanson Road); Min y Don; Mochdre; and, Craig y Don Bowling Clubs.

The day after tomorrow (Monday 28th July) there will be four further competitions qualifying rounds. Firstly, the Mixed Pairs that will be held at Rhos Park and Old Colwyn Bowling Clubs with the start time of 9:30am. Also, the George Davies qualifiers will be held at: Rhos-on-Sea; Min y Don; Mochdre; Craig y Don; and, Eirias Park Bowling Clubs (varying start times). With a start time of 5:30pm: the Ladies Pairs will be held at Vardre Deganwy and also Mochdre Bowling Clubs. The Men’s Pairs will be held at Rhos Park; Rhos-on-Sea; Min y Don; and, Craig y Don Bowling Clubs.

The monthly meeting of the Committee will be held in the Clubhouse today between 10am & 11:30am. The green is available to play on.

Friendly + Hosting

There is a doubles friendly this afternoon on the green between Us and Us. Start time is 1:30pm but please arrive earlier so that pairings can be made.

Some of the Colwyn Bowls Festival events next week still need club members to volunteer to help in the kitchen, marking, measuring, rounding up used cups, etc. Please add your name to the list on the noticeboard in the clubhouse. Bowlers will be attending from all over the UK so we want to play our part in making them welcome, and in providing first class support to all the competitors in this very popular annual Festival. Thank you for any help that you are able to give.

WCGBA Mixed Pairs Merits 2025

Just a reminder to Club Members that Friday 8th August is the closing date for receipt of entries to the above annual competition which will be held on Sunday 24th August (venue to be confirmed). Entry Fee £10.00.

Thursday Afternoon Friendlies

A slight change in plan regarding the Friendlies which the organisers hope you’ll all really appreciate. The next few matches will be held every Thursday afternoon at Vardre Deganwy with Club Members playing amongst themselves. Usual start time of 1:30pm but please arrive before that time so that doubles pairings can be made. The next Friendly versus another Club will be 28th August when Rhos-on-Sea will visit us for the match. Enjoy.

Busy Day & Looking Ahead

Today will be a very busy day on the green. The U3A Coaching takes place as usual from 10:00am to 12 noon. Followed by the re-arranged Clwydian League match for our ‘D’ Team versus Copperfields ‘B’ which will be completed this afternoon. Team members will start to arrive from 1:00pm onwards for a start time of 2:15pm, and the match should be completed before late afternoon. From 4:00pm to 5:00pm the Gardening Group will be around the green tidying up prior to next week’s Colwyn Bowls Festival events. This will be followed by tonight’s match between our Colwyn & Llandudno League ‘C’ Team versus Penrhyn New Hall ‘B’.

Summer Break

Our green has had a 60-hour holiday from bowling, with our maintenance team Ian, David, John B & Bobby working hard to feed and water the green to help it through this long, dry, hot summer. Now school holidays have started, we can probably expect more rain than there has been recently. Only another 7-days until the start of the Colwyn Bowls Festival. Events will be held here on that day (Sunday 27th July) so please consider helping to host and put your name down on the list in the Clubhouse.

GG Time

The Gardening Group will be undertaking final preparation of the premises for the Club’s hosting of some of the competitions during the Colwyn Bowls Festival 2025 week. Please come along and help on Monday 21st July from 4pm to 5pm. See you there.
