Testing Times

Chesil Beach is a shingle bank 18-miles long, running from the Isle of Portland near Weymouth to West Bay near Bridport. It forms part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The stretch between the Isle of Portland and Abbotsbury (photo on Left) is backed by the Fleet, a shallow tidal lagoon. From September 1942 to March 1943, experiments with the Barnes Wallis bouncing bombs were made off Chesil Beach.

All the World’s a Bowling Green

I count myself in nothing else so happy / As in a soul rememb’ring my good friends

Words by William Shakespeare, RICHARD II, ACT 2 SCENE 3, LINES 46-47; BOLINGBROKE TO PERCY

Friends Eddie, Shan, Brian and Islwyn take a break before their game

The Stylistics

Here Doreen demonstrates the “Cunning Crouch Ouch Position (C-COP)” to try and get the same perspective on David’s line of the jack and bowl. This technique is not often demonstrated on the green but perhaps it could set a trend for next season? Even Ann is impressed.
