The sun shone and members turned out in their dozens on President’s Day to watch the final of the Hornby Cup and to participate in the Triples Competition (the Boys versus the Girls). The Hornby Cup was won by Ian Wilson 21:20 with Diane Lea as the Runner-Up. The Triples Competition was won by the Boys 2½:1½.

Mary Hughes is our President and today is the Vardre Deganwy Bowling Club President’s Day, starting at 12:30pm. Two Competition Finals will be played out on the green: the Hornby Cup; and, the Alpha Trophy. Plus, the final round of the Girls v Boys (Triples) will also be held. Buffet type refreshments will be provided by the Club so members can relax and compete.
Yes, it’s that time of year again when we turn our minds to vultures. Why? Vultures are natural scavengers so they play an important hygienic role in cleaning up ecosystems, reducing the risk of spread of disease.

Our Clwydian League ‘B’ Team had another good win yesterday, keeping them at the top of their Division by 10-points, with just one more match to go before the season ends. That means they need to win 3-games in that final match to guarantee winning the Division Title for 2023 as the second placed team is currently 10-points behind. Promotion to the ‘B’ Division in 2024 was guaranteed with today’s win. Congratulations to Captains Carol & John Barrington and the whole team.

Ian and Shan took part in the Welsh Crown Green Bowling Association Mixed Pairs Competition yesterday that was held at Rhos-on-Sea Bowling Club. They dived into their first match and emerged the winners. In their Quarter Final game, it was even more exciting, with the score at 19:19 the only question was: how is it going to end? Sadly, their opponents managed to pip them at the post and so progressed to the semi-final and then they won the Final. The rain and cold sent most of the spectators home before both the Final and the 3rd-place play-off took place. Both finalist pairs, plus the 3rd-place-playoff winners, now progress to the National Finals in England, to be held in a few weeks time. Well done to both Shan and Ian (no autograph hunters please).
Major League Eating is a US professional league of eating contests. Yesterday, one of their events was held in the UK for the very first time at Seal Bay, Selsey, West Sussex. A dozen competitors had 10-minutes to eat as many hot dogs in buns as possible. The winner managed to eat 34! The winner will also participate in the Coney Island (USA) event in 2024.
Our local female Sparrowhawk turned up last night, scanning the local area for a tasty pigeon.
Uh oh. She’s spotted the photographer. Note to self: try not to look like a pigeon.
