Next time we have a competition, we could use that well-known Latin expression: proxime accessit. The classics scholars amongst us will also know that this is a phrase usually abbreviated to prox. acc. But what does it mean? It means: Runner-up to prize-winner. So in every competition we hold, we always have one of these.

Roll-Ups

One needs to be very careful with terminology in sport. In crown green bowling, for instance, “roll-ups” are what you do with your pair of bowls just before playing a game against an opponent. In the wider world, however, “roll-ups” are what you make with loose tobacco and a special piece of paper followed by setting fire to them. Remember, do not set fire to your bowls, no matter how you play on the day!

The Club Committee has appointed Marina Roberts as the interim Chairman, to undertake the role between now and the next Annual General Meeting due to the recent sad loss of David Rogers Jones. She’ll need everyone’s support to carry out this role and we’re grateful to her for taking on this responsibility.
