Clwydian Senior Citizens League Merits 2015

On Tuesday the 6^th October the preliminary rounds took place at Mochdre bowling club.

We had two representatives Shan Eccles and Dave Holland.

They each played two games and Shan progressed to the semi final stage whilst Dave progressed to the quarter final stage.

Both players played tough opponents and Dave unfortunately came up against a player who bowled a mean second wood taking a number of ends when Dave was holding.

The semi final and final were held on Friday the 9^th October at Copperfields Bowling Club.

Unfortunately Shans opponent in the semi final failed to appear so Shan progressed through to the final.

Shan made it a memorable season by winning the final in great style. (Shan also won the Rose Bowl for the third season in a row)

Well done to both Shan and Dave for their achievements this season.

The club can be extremely proud of the two of them. I know I am as their Captain.

Our Club President, Margaret, created club history yesterday (Sept.24), by winning this years competition. It is the first time that a currently in office president has won the Shield. In fact, it is the 2nd time that Margaret has won this competition – she did it in 2011, and so joins a band of current club members who also have their names twice on this very old trophy. The other 2-times winners are Charles Rhodes, Brian Evans and Eddie Eccles.

This year, there were 23 competitors, and over the two rounds played, Margaret scored 11 points, just one point more than Bill and Gwyn, with Bill winning the one wood play-off for the “runner-up” place.

Bob Mason’s Charity Event – Round Robin Fun Day 9th August 2015

£406 was raised from donations , with over 40 players participating in this Fun Day Round Robin for a Cancer charity in memory of Bob’s dear wife Gill.

Vardre “B “win Clwydian Senior Citizens Section “C” Cup Final

7th Aug 2015

Clwydian Senior Citizens “C” division Cup final.

The above game took place on Friday the 7^th August 2015 at Dyserth Bowling Club when we played Denbigh “B”.

The team scored a resounding 9-1 win. We achieved the winning margin in the first six games thus taking the pressure off the last four players, however they maintained the momentum. The final points count was 206-139.

We had three winners to single figures which certainly helps. There were also several notable results, Kathy clawing her way back to a cracking win as well as Bob returning to form well after his health scare and Brian who overcame a tough opponent, Ray Lee also had a very good victory to record good results.

It was also appreciated the support we received from “A” team members Ian Wilson, Bill Curtis and Gwyn Hughes. Thanks to Gwyn for taking the photos throughout the afternoon.

On Friday the 14^th August our “A” team take on Dyserth “A” in their cup final at Abergele with a 2pm start and I would urge club members to go along to support them lets help make it a double.

Finally a big thank you to all the B team squad for your invaluable support this season we now have to push on for the league title.
