And so another season draws to a close, with matches played versus old friends and foes
Time to reflect on the year gone by, analysing what we do well and why
For Vardre has a thriving Bowls Club, with many members centred at the hub
All doing purely voluntary deeds, meeting the requirements of all the Club’s needs.
Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and President, All have duties that appear quite evident
But they often contribute far more than their role, being totally committed in heart and in soul.
Our web-site editor is the charming Gwyn Hughes, who conveys to members all the Club’s news
Via photos, videos, facebook or tweeting, and with his humour it will really take some beating.
Beginning a Junior Section was no easy feat, recruiting the children, finding times to meet
But Derrick’s persisted and is living his dreams, ‘cos now the youngsters are making the teams
Martin’s the main man in charge of the green, even on holiday he can always be seen
Cleaning the hut, maybe sharpening the blades, or planting flowers of all different shades.
Health and Safety is another of his roles, ensuring no members fall down new holes,
Checking for faults wherever they may rise, and putting up signs, well that’s no surprise.
Another valued helper is long-serving Bill, he knows every bowler from Conwy to Rhyl
And now he’s committed to every Monday, recruiting new members through the U3A.
For socials and friendlies Dave is your man, he does Fun days and bingo like no other can.
Win a line or a house don’t give him a hug, there’s an outside chance he’s stood on the plug.
And communication within can only get better, with his brand new venture, the monthly newsletter.
Not every Club has a Head of morale, not one at least who calls everyone “pal”
Life and soul of the party is not easy to be, ‘specially when you follow Liverpool F.C.
Rhona brings milk fresh from the shop, Bob the ice-cream and Mary the pop,
Vera brings rich tea, digestive and bourbon, but nobody’s certain where the biscuits have gone!
There are others who contribute in so many ways, some in the present and others in past days
A conveyor belt of members doing big jobs and small, and willing to help whenever the call
Painters and cleaners and several bakers too, there’s many a cake at every Club do
So with the AGM approaching and the odd vacant slot, put yourself forward, it’s not asking a lot
And you can be one of these great volunteers, that keeps the Club going for several more years!!
