By the time you read this the club will have closed for the season but that doesn’t mean that things won’t be happening. In this edition it will cover things that will be going on during our closed season as well as some of the things that we hope or anticipate will happen next season as well as a few that are on going. Here are just some.
Walled Towns Competition
This took place on Sunday 24th September and we were runners up. It was a good day and a big thanks to all those who took part or helped out on the day. Ian’s organisation of the event helped tremendously and we have had comments back from other clubs congratulating us on the day. Next year the event will be held at Denbigh.
Another good day with 22 members taking part. The sun shone, making it even better that any of us expected It was a singles competition with a slight twist. The losers had the jack. It seemed to work well and Marc Morris was the overall winner with Shan second and Dave Leech third. Prizes were donated by our President, Tudor.
We have around 16 names down so we will be putting in one team. The first game is likely to be towards the latter end of October.
Alpha and Hornby Cup Competitions
These came to a conclusion recently. Marc, who is in good form now won the Hornby Cup and Martin won the Alpha Cup. Well done to all the entrants. Next year, however, we have agreed to change the format on the Alpha Cup and it will only be open to members who have a handicap of 4 and above. This will give our new and less experienced players an opportunity to get their name on the trophy.
Work is due to start on the restructuring of the patio so that it will be ready in plenty of time for the new season.
Don’t forget that Craig Y Don open their green for winter. £20 registration lets you play any time until April. Bargain!
Don’t forget the AGM in November. Any issues you think should be raised must be given to Mary, the Secretary, in good time. You will be informed in plenty of time,
The end of season carvery lunch will be held on 20th October at the Colwyn Bay Cricket Club. £15. Cheques to Dave Holland 10 Warren Drive before the 13th October please.
A Vardre Women’s Team has been suggested. Sounds a great idea. If you are interested please let Carol Barrington know or email Mary.
Due to poor membership the 100 club will end at the close of this year.
Football cards and raffles brought in over £400 so they will remain.
Maintenance work will begin when the green has closed. The benches and railings will be repaired and improved by our own maintenance team. Any help will be appreciated.
Whist will start towards the end of October. Please see Marina or Rhona for details.
